John David Hill

Master Sergeant, USAF Retired, John David "JD" Hill, 77, of Goose Creek, SC, beloved husband of Shirley Boutwell Hill for 57 years, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024.

David was born on September 4,1947, in Selma, AL. He was the son of the late James White Hill, Sr. and the late Alice Nichols Little. 

Along with his parents, David is preceded in death by several brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Boutwell Hill; his 2 daughters, Connie H. Ott (Kenneth) and Deborah H. Burbage (Rodney); and his four grandchildren, Shauna Ott (Randy), Kalyn Barr (Bobby), Andrew Burbage, and Jadee Burbage.

David's military career spanned 20 years working on jet engines for multiple aircrafts across multiple bases. He was stationed at Norton AFB California, Eglin AFB FL, Keflavik Naval Air Station Iceland, and Charleston AFB SC. After retiring from active duty service, he accepted a Federal Civil Service position as a Jet Engine Mechanic and retired after 20 years.

He received many commendations and meritorious awards throughout his career. He was selected to represent the Black Knights in the William Tell 1972 Interceptor Weapons Meet at Tyndlall AFB, FL. He was also presented with an Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award by the Department of the Air Force. He was a recipient of the Twenty-First Air Force 1996 Lieutenant General Leo Marquez Award Aircraft Civilian Technician Category. 

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, country music, and spending time camping and traveling with his family.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 6:00PM - 8:00PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation, 869 St. James Ave., Goose Creek, SC 29445.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 1:00PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation, 869 St. James Ave., Goose Creek, SC 29445.

The burial will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 2:15PM at Summerville Cemetery, 1330 Boone Hill Rd., Summerville, SC 29483.
