John Clarence "Popi" Houston, 78, of Charleston, husband to Cheryl "Cheri" Houston, entered into eternal rest on April 9, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 6, 1942 in Tucson, AZ, John was a son of the late Gladys Olivia Collins Houston and John LaFate Houston.
John, was a US Navy Veteran serving on the USS Rock and USS Henry Clay; worked in the car business at several dealerships including Palmetto Ford where he met his wife; he was also Owner and President of Cobwebs Incorporated.
John enjoyed gardening, old westerns, spending time with his grandchildren and his dogs.
Besides his wife "Cheri" or "Noni", John is survived by a sister Carolyn Ahmie (Kenneth); Sons Kevin Skarp (Kelley) and Jonathan Kurzawa; daughter Melinda Houston Gonzales (Mike); grandchildren Kylie Noelle Skarp (Derek), Kross Gray Skarp, Kaleb Lillian Kurzawa, Holden Edward Bass, Kenneth Colby Weeks and Brandon Tyler Houston along with his dogs Kooper and Brady.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two sisters Jeanie McKool and Marion Poorman.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at McAlister Smith Funeral Home, 347 Folly Road, James Island, 29412.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 11:00am at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Rd, Charleston, SC 29412.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital and Pet Helpers.
