John Arthur Blackwell III 73, of James Island, passed away June 24, 2017.
Born in Charleston, he was the son of the late John A. Blackwell II and Georgialina Peters and husband to the late Sharon Blackwell. John worked at Westvaco as a Boilermaker, retiring in 2006. He was a member of the James Island American Legion, VFW, Sons of the Confederacy and Bethany United Methodist Church. John was active at his church in the Men's Club and Outreach Program. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed going to yard sales on Saturday mornings. John loved animals, especially his dog Holly.
He is survived by his children, Kathy Burn and husband Philip of James Island and John Blackwell IV and wife Pam of James Island; grandchild, Jessica MacBay; great granddaughter, Faith Guay; brother, Billy Peters of Charlotte, NC. John is predeceased by his parents, wife and brother, Donald Blackwell.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 30, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m in MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, JAMES ISLAND CHAPEL.
Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
