Dr. John Anthony Malark, 56, of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest with his family by his side on Sunday, September 6, 2015. He was born on December 6, 1958 in Providence, RI to Barbara Sisto Malark and Morris D. Malark. John graduated from Hope High School and completed his undergraduate and graduate work at Michigan State University. In addition, he completed a large animal internship at the University of Georgia and an equine surgical residency at the University of Florida and Cornell University. He was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church. John was the owner of Edisto Equine Clinic and was the only board certified equine surgeon in the state of SC. He was a very devoted husband, father, son, and friend. John had a very large presence. He was a mentor to many and was often seen and heard on the sports field coaching, supporting, and guiding many children including his own. John was a devoted sports enthusiast, and especially loved his Michigan State Spartans. His family and friends remember him as a generous leader with his time, talents and treasures. He will be deeply missed by the equine community for his dedication to his clientele and patients. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Dr. Carmela M. (Chmielewicz) Malark, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Son, Connor James Malark and Daughter, Cara Nicole Malark, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Parents, Barbara and Morris Malark, of North Providence, RI; Brother, Steven Anthony (Gail) Malark, of North Providence, RI; Sister, Mariann (Joseph) Rachko, of North Providence, RI; nephew, Jared Rachko, of North Providence, RI; and many loving cousins and friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at Christ Our King Catholic Church on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Cemetery.
