Joanna d’Arcy Gray Vaught of Southport, NC died Monday, February 12, 2018 after a courageous battle with bladder cancer.
She was born February 28, 1937 in London, England, the daughter of Mary and James Gray. She married Clarence Thomas Vaught on December 16, 1962 in Beaufort, SC then had two children. She was an outstanding Navy wife, moving nineteen times in 31 years. She worked across the nation as a registered nurse for more than 50 years. Joanna was an active member of the English Ladies Club, her book club, and the Southport Garden Club. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was known for her British scones.
In addition to her husband, Joanna is survived by her children, Alexandra and her husband Paul, of Charleston, Damien and his wife Julie Vaught of Kirkland, WA; 3 grand-children, Timothy Corder, Mark Corder, and Liam Vaught; a sister, Jennifer McCarthy of Rockport, MA and her cousin, Margaret Don of Annapolis, MD;
Mass will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, February 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Southport, NC, 5269 Dosher Cutoff SE, Southport, NC 28461.
