**April 2, 1935 — October 3, 2024**

Mary Joann Tawes Major, known as Joann to all who loved her, a beacon of love and faith, left her family on October 3, 2024, in Henderson, Nevada to be received into the loving arms of God. Born on April 2, 1935, in Charleston, South Carolina, Joann was the cherished daughter of Creston and Mary Tawes. Her life was a tapestry of devotion to family, faith, and community. Joann was educated in Charleston, attending Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduating from Bishop England High School. She pursued her passion for nursing at St. Francis Xavier Hospital Nursing School, embodying a spirit of care and compassion throughout her life.

She was a devout woman, whose love for her Lord and Savior was evident in everything she did. Her faith was her guiding light, and she shared it generously with all who knew her. Joann’s love was her greatest legacy—unwavering and unconditional.

Joann was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Creston and Mary Tawes; her daughter, Joan Elizabeth; and her brother, Creston. The loss of these dear family members was profound, yet she carried their memories with grace and strength.

She is survived by her devoted husband, John Major, whose love and support were steadfast throughout their journey together. She is also survived by her children, John Major, Jr. (Gloria), Allen Major (Lesa Hatley-Major), Michael Major, Donna Miller (Randy), Mary Correa (Sean Sportbert), and Katherine Major Smith (Gordon). She was the treasured sister of Warren Tawes (Sandra), Kay Ellen Cox, and Mary Ann Finch, and a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 7 great-grandchildren.

Joann’s love for her family was immeasurable, her legacy of love, strength, and faith.

She was buried at St. Francis of Assisi in Henderson, NV.
