JoAnn Watson Frederick passed away on December 7, 2022 at Generations of Irmo, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on August 29, 1939 in Cincinnati, Ohio to James Leslie Watson, Jr. and Josephine San Fillipo.
She was predeceased by her high school sweetheart and husband of 64 years, Edward F. Frederick and daughter, Mary Lynne Frederick. She was also predeceased by her brother, James L. Watson, III (Darlene).
She is survived by daughters, Susan Stewart (Dave) of Prosperity, South Carolina, and Patricia King of Savannah, Georgia; son, Christopher Frederick (Amy) of Atlanta, Georgia; grand-children, Danielle Burke, of Chicago, Illinois, Landon King, (Caitlin) of Camp Pendleton, California, Megan King, of San Francisco, California, and Elizabeth and Jack Frederick of Atlanta, Georgia; step-grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson (Duncan), Douglas, Brad, and Callum Stewart of Columbia, South Carolina, as well as brothers, Terry Watson (Cindy) and Gary Watson (Cindy) of Cincinnati, OH and brother-in-law, Deacon Jim Frederick of Ballentine, South Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
JoAnn supported Navy wives as the wife of submariner Chief of the Boat for more than 20 years. She then dedicated 18 years as the secretary to the Catholic Chaplain of the Citadel for which she was awarded the first Diocese Commendation for Service, the Catholic Chaplains’ Distinguished Service Award. She also formed her own photography business, preparing collages of photos of Cadets spanning their 4 years. She loved her cadets and many holidays were celebrated with new found brothers who could not get to their homes.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1pm on December 12, 2022 prior to Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Rd., Charleston, SC, 29412 and following the entombment.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Rd., Charleston, SC, 29412.
A Rite of Committal will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association: https://www.alz.org/sc.
