Joan Wassen

Joan Wappler Wassén, of Charleston, SC, passed away on April 13, 2021, at Roper Hospice Cottage. Joan was 89 years old. She was born September 20, 1931, in Rutherford, NJ, the first of two daughters of Dolph and Helen Ogden Wappler. She grew up in Rutherford, NJ, graduated from Rutherford High School and Centenary Jr. College, Hacketstown, NJ. She married Kurt O. Wassén of Wilmington, DE, on February 14, 1952. Joan was of the Episcopalian faith and was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Kurt O. Wassén of Charleston, SC, three daughters, Judy Ann W. Radford of Pinehurst, NC, Carolyn W. Craig (Mark) of Summerville, SC, Jane W. Wassén of High Point, NC, and son Kurt O. Wassén, Jr. (Lisa) of Shelby, NC; two grandchildren, Davis W. Craig (Savannah) of Johns Island, SC and Allison C. Craig of Charleston, SC. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Collins, of Chestertown, MD.

There will be a private memorial service at Bishop Gadsden on Friday, April 16, 2021, at 10:30AM.
