Joan I. Gomperts (Isaac)

Joan I. Gomperts, 84, of Goose Creek, SC died peacefully with her family on Friday, January 22, 2016. She was born on Friday, January 22, 1932 in Villa Park, IL to the late Mrs. Marguerite S. Isaac and the late Mr. Morgan E. Isaac. Joan graduated from Bishop England High School, completed St. Francis Nursing School and practiced as registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital until her marriage in 1958. In 1977, she returned to nursing and worked at Charleston County Hospital for several years before returning to St. Francis Hospital where she worked in the nursery and retired in 1996. Joan enjoyed reading, was an avid sports fan, cooking and spending time with her family. Her family remembers her as a loving wife, mother, “exceptional” grandmother and friend, with a zest for life and a great smile. She is survived by her daughters, Susan G. Gomperts, of Falls Church, VA, and Tina G. Keith (Gary), of Goose Creek, SC; son, Eric D. Gomperts (Lisa), of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Sally I. Thrift (Bud), of Lake Wales, FL; five grandchildren, Kristopher Drawdy, Kayce Drawdy, Kody Keith, Makayla Gomperts and Sara Gomperts; sister-in-law, Beverly S. Isaac; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her loving parents; husband of forty-seven years, John R. Gomperts; sons, Alan W. Gomperts and William B. Gomperts; and brothers, John S. Isaac and Morgan E. Isaac Jr. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. A Funeral Service will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
