Jerry Nelson Haynie

Jerry 'Cotton' Nelson Haynie, 75 of Goose Creek, South Carolina passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Cotton was born Wednesday, August 17, 1938 in Gastonia, NC. He was the son of Lela Barker Wylie and the late Samuel B. Haynie. Cotton served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with Hammerton Lodge #332 and an Omar Shriner. Cotton loved fishing, Nascar, the Atlanta Braves, and his grandchildren. His family remembers him as having a strong will and a good sense of humor. Besides his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, Samuel B. Haynie, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Wright Haynie of Goose Creek, SC; three sons: Jerry Haynie, Jr. of Goose Creek, SC; S. Duane Haynie of Ladson, SC; Mike Haynie, and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Goose Creek, SC; one daughter, Darlene Haynie Fox, and her husband, Bill, of Monroe, NC; five grandchildren: Michael Haynie, Katheryn Reed, Reed Camp, Jason Smith, and Ashlynn Parsons; and two great-grandchildren: Noah Knight and Gabriella Reed; his mother, Lela Barker Wylie of Monroe, NC; and one brother, Steven Haynie, and his wife, Judy, of Matthews, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm - 8:00pm, on Friday, June 13, 2014, in the chapel of McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 869 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445 (843) 553-1511.
