Jean Marie Sweigart, 73, of Sullivan Island, SC, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
Born on June 27, 1951 in Springfield, MO, Jean Marie (Kiki) was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Viola Marvel Hoye.
Kiki graduated from Regina High School (1969), Univ of Cincinnati (1973), Teachers College Columbia University (1990). Kiki was a wife, mother, athlete, coach and teacher. She ran multiple marathons all around the world being especially proud to wear the USA jersey in 1981 Tokyo International Women's Open Marathon where she placed 3rd. That year she also won the women's division of Charleston Bridge Run. In the early 1980s she was ranked top 10 in the world and top 5 in the USA. Everyone knew she loved dogs and one was never enough. Kiki taught year-round for 50 years constantly learning new skills and techniques for her array of students, classes and programs. Faculty and staff at Ashley Hall would say "Kiki was always 'leveling up'". A passionate proponent of Horizons Summer Enrichment Program she was constantly involved in various capacities since 1974 in New Canaan, CT, Washington DC (founder), and Charleston SC (founder and director).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street Sullivan's Island, SC 29482
In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her brother, Michael Hoye, sister, Martha Hoye Martino, brother-in-law, Mark Martino, and nephew, Danny Martino.
Jean Marie is survived by her husband Ray Lang Sweigart, son, Christopher James Sweigart (Rebecca), sisters, Mary Meyer and JoAnne Hoye, DVM, brother, Pat Hoye, and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
