WEST COLUMBIA, SC: Jean Rochester Geer, widow of John L. Geer, Jr. of West Columbia, SC went to her maker on November 16, 2023, at Lexington Medical Center.
Born September 10, 1940, in Seneca, SC, she was the daughter of the late Clyde O. Rochester and Nell Margaret Clark Rochester.
She lived in Seneca until January 1, 1967, when she relocated to West Columbia. She attended Walhalla High School in 1959. She worked as a secretary for the engineer at Utica Mohawk Mills in Seneca, during which time she attended Anderson College at night. When living in West Columbia she worked as a bookkeeper in Columbia and later for Allis Chalmers in Lexington. She later worked in the computer department of SC Dept of Mental Health in Columbia and before retiring in 1982 she worked in the computer department at SC Dept of Mental Retardation in Columbia. During these years she attended USC mostly at night. She graduated with a BS in Business Administration in 1980.
Jean was a member of the West Columbia branch of the LDS (Mormon) church. She loved to read, dance, travel, cruise, visit new places, meet new people, go to the beach, enjoy good food with friends and experience new things. She was a handcrafter who did embroidery, crocheting, made jewelry and selling it at craft shows and festivals, painted and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by her son, Clyde A. “Tony” Patterson (Helen); grandson, Clyde C. Patterson, all of Columbia; her good friends and her beloved cats.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at (time) in the chapel of McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 200 State St, West Columbia, with Bishop Ross officiating. Interment to follow at Woodridge Memorial Park.
Flowers accepted and can be delivered to the funeral home.
