Janice S. Jones

Janice Sullivan Jones, 73, of Charleston, SC passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of December 10, 2024. A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Jan will be remembered for her resilience and determination after battling cancer for nearly 25 years. Her sense of humor, love for everyone, and generosity will be missed by all.

Born January 7, 1951 in Everett, MA as the youngest of 8 children to Robert and Margaret Sullivan, Jan enjoyed the nearly princess-like privileges of being the youngest, often going unpunished for the relentless torment of her older brothers and sisters.

Jan’s adventurous spirit drove her on a cross-country journey to California where she eventually succumbed to the unrelenting pursuit of her husband Charles “Chuck” Jones. They were married on May 24, 1980 and had three successful, well-educated, good-looking, and completely self-sufficient children, Stephen (1981), Erin (1982), and Brian (1983). They enjoyed a loving marriage full of constant bad puns, dad-jokes and eye-rolling.

Jan found fulfilment and joy working in various roles at Sunkist in Ontario, CA, ensuring that the juice was, indeed, worth the squeeze. She retired from Sunkist in 2004 and moved with her husband to Surfside Beach, SC in 2005. Eventually, she and Chuck found their way to Charleston, SC in 2016.

Jan is survived by her husband, Chuck; her two sons, Stephen and Brian; her four “adopted” sons, Trenton, Roy, Jeff, and Dan; brothers, Patrick and Michael; sisters, Margaret and Patricia; and five grandchildren, Avery (11), Porter (10), Remy (9), Finnley (6), and Beckett (5)

Her unwavering desire to watch her children and grandchildren grow led her to be an inspiration to anyone battling cancer. The perseverance she exhibited over the 25 years she had to deal with chronic pain, suffering, and sickness is a testament to the type of person she was. Her legacy will always be the personification of the determination needed to continue to live.

She will be missed tremendously.

Funeral Services for Jan will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation- Mount Pleasant.
