James Nelson "Jimmy" Woody

James Nelson "Jimmy" Woody, 82 of Seabrook Island, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

Born on February 28, 1942 in Marion, NC Jimmy was a Son of the late Lelia Woody (Cox) and Floyd Walston Woody.

Jimmy spent his early childhood in Spruce Pine, NC until the family moved to Newport News, Va. He graduated from Warwick High School in Newport News, Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC., and Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, NC. with degrees in Wildlife Biology. He began his lifelong career as a wildlife biologist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Baltimore District, shortly thereafter transferring to the Charleston, SC District where he eventually retired. 

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Lynn Woody; two sons, Brian Worth Woody (Heather), of Sitka, AK, and Scott Nelson Woody of Spruce Pine, NC; and granddaughter, Karoline Ann Woody.

James is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jo, of Spruce Pine, NC, and two brothers, Gene Woody of Crystal River, FL and Art Woody of Richmond, Va.

A Celebration of Life service will be planned for a later date.
