James Leon Lawrence, 76, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on, Saturday, May 13, 2017.
He was born on April 26, 1941 in Elkin, North Carolina to the late Lois Wellborne Lawrence and the late Roy Thomas Lawrence.
Jim attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated from Pfeiffer University. He served proudly as a Captain in the United States Army and had worked with 3 other companies following his military service – Sara Lee Corporation, WARNACO and Island Vista. Jim was an avid golfer who loved to travel and spend time with his family.
Besides his parents, James is predeceased by Gerald T. Lawrence (brother) and Delores Taylor Lawrence (cherished wife and mother).
He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Sara Powell of Columbia, SC; son, Jim Lawrence, Jr. of Smyrna, GA; daughter-in-law, Wellesley Smith Lawrence of Smyrna; and granddaughter, Marien Lawrence of Smyrna.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
