James "Jim" Gordon LaVanway, 82, of Summerville passed away on March 20, 2025.
Born on August 4, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan, he was a son of the late Marion Alley LaVanway and Alfred LaVanway.
Jim was an avid collector and spent many happy hours collecting and organizing stamps, coins, and baseball cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Lee Nelson; and son-in-law Barry Stitely.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn LaVanway; siblings Sally Dureno (Bruce) and John LaVanway (Donna); children Karen Stitely, James LaVanway (Dawn), Michelle Cruz (Rick), and Lynn Mizzell; grandchildren Katie Draznin (Oren), Blake Stitely, Blaise Mahan, Jaelin LaVanway, Joshua Cruz (Becca), Matthew Cruz (Lindsey), Stephen Cruz (Jolene), Justin Nicholson, Heather Mizzell (Sean); and great grandchildren Asher Yeager, River Nicholson, Laken Nicholson, Rowan Nicholson, and Mavis Nicholson.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 1:00 - 2:00pm, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 869 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445. Jim's service will follow at 2:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek.
The burial will be at 3:30 PM at Plantation Memorial Gardens, 3345 S. Live Oak Drive, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
