James Ray Jones

November 18, 1957 — June 25, 2023

James Ray Jones, 65, of Summerville, SC, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023.

Born on November 18, 1957 in Charmont, France, he was a son of Mary Bone Jones and Paul Jones.

James had a passion for metal work that spanned over 30 years, during which he created beautiful and practical pieces such as cookers, trailers, and iron fences that demonstrated his talent and originality.

His greatest masterpiece, however, was his family, his children and grandchildren, who along with his beloved wife, Cindy, brought him endless joy and happiness. Retirement was a time that James savored, spending peaceful hours in the garden, fishing, and restoring mini motorcycles. He and Cindy also enjoyed traveling, with their favorite destination being the deck of a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. James was a wonderful host, frequently opening  his home to family and friends for cookouts and gatherings. His relaxed nature, creative talent, and genuine love for those in his life will be deeply missed.

James is preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Wright.

James is survived by his wife, Cynthia Jones; children, James Jones (Molly)  and Amy Hill (Marcus); and his grandchildren: Marisol, Evie, Hunter, and Barrett. He is also survived by his parents, Paul and Mary Jones; and brother, Gene Jones.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 30, 2023 from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home in Goose Creek. The service will follow at 12:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be held at 2:00 PM at Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston, South Carolina.
