James Francis Britton

James Francis “Jim” Britton passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 81 years old.

Jim retired after a distinguished 29-year career in Nondestructive Testing at the Charleston Naval Shipyard.

Born in Charleston, SC, on September 28, 1942, he was the cherished son of Frances Malone Britton and William Joseph Britton Jr., both of whom passed away before him.

Throughout his life, Jim embodied kindness, strength, and an unwavering love for his family and friends. He was always there to offer support and guidance, ready to lend a listening ear or a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Whether it was a word of encouragement during tough times, or a hearty laugh shared over good times, he had a way of making everyone feel appreciated and loved.

Jim's warmth and compassion touched the lives of many, and his legacy of kindness will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched with his gentle spirit and generous heart.

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his brother William Edward Britton Sr.

Jim is survived by his sons, Sean Britton (Elizabeth (Nicole)) and Scott Britton; daughters: Tracy Britton Boring (Jeff), Sherri Britton Smith, and Lisa Behlmer; sister: Margaret Britton Holseberg (Leroy), sister-in-law Gail Hughes Britton; grandchildren: Brandon Britton, Meghan McCarthy (Kevin), Katelyn Behlmer (Chris Terpenning), Jacob Behlmer, Evan Boring, Zachary Smith, Garrett Smith, Camryn Smith Labrador (Donovan); great-grandchildren: Blake Horne, Julia McCarthy and Graham McCarthy, Christian Terpenning, Levi Terpenning, and Landyn Terpenning; nieces and nephews: William Edward Britton Jr, Lynn Britton Rowland, Roy Holseberg, Travis Holseberg, Todd Holseberg, and Nick Holseberg; and special friend BettyGene Haller.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
