Irvin (Pete) Durant Parker of Summerville passed away November 5, 2024 at the age of 88.
Born in Manning S.C. to George P. and Annie Lee Parker on November 17, 1935, Pete was the youngest of six siblings. His family were sharecroppers who worked several farms in Clarendon, Williamsburg and Florence counties. After turning 17 he joined the Air Force and served four years. After leaving the Air Force he enrolled in USC earning his BA and JD while working as a radio announcer at several South Carolina radio stations. While in college he met and married Elizabeth Keefe.
After getting his law degree he worked in the attorney general's office and developed an interest in consumer credit law which led to the establishment of the South Carolina Consumer Affairs agency which he served as it's first administrator. He retired from state government after running the South Carolina Workers Compensation fund and spent his retirement years learning to play the guitar and doting on his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Parker; his children Michael and Kathleen; his son in law Bill Strasburg; and his grandchildren Lucinda and Lillith.
The family will have a private ceremony at a later date and asks that donations be made to https://sclegal.org/donate-now/ in lieu of flowers.
