Herman Louis Roberts

Herman Louis Roberts of Hollywood, South Carolina passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

Herman was born in Albany, Georgia on May 11, 1937 to the late David Roberts and Maud Parramore Roberts. Besides his parents, Herman is preceded in death by his brother, Gene Roberts.

Herman attended and graduated from Thronateeska High School in 1955. After graduating, Herman enlisted in the Army and trained at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in Morse code. Afterwards, he was assigned to Arlington Hall Station in Virginia. Following his service, he decided to stay in the Washington DC area and began his 30-year long career as a Banker. After his banking retirement, he founded a lawn business known as “Froggie, We Hop to It,” for 20 years. In February 2022, Herman and Judy moved to Hollywood, South Carolina to appreciate their sunset years.

Herman was a well-groomed man with a southern charm who cherished every moment with family and friends. He enjoyed going to the local restaurants, movies, story-telling, comedy clubs, and magic shows. Herman was adventurous as he was always ready to travel to new places by flying or cruising. He had a soft spot for all animals, especially his sheltie, dachshunds, and two cats.

He was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Most people will remember Herman as someone who took great pleasure in sharing his vast knowledge, telling stories of his own youth, contagious smile, and heartfelt hugs.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Judy Roberts and four daughters Peggy (Dave) Barnhill, Tracie Turner, Rebecca (Nathaniel) Beverly, and Suzanna (Charles) Fields. Along with his 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and beloved dachshund, Mitize.

Herman’s celebration of life will follow on a date to be determined.
