Herbert Leo Spain

Herbert Leo Spain, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, SC died on Saturday, January 3, 2015. He was born on Friday, January 17, 1930 in Charleston, SC to the late Cleo Spain and the late George S Spain. Herbert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and enjoyed his lifelong career as a Public Accountant. He was a parishioner of Christ Our King Roman Catholic Church and a life member of the Elks Club, Lodge #242. Herbert loved spending time with his family and enjoyed dancing with his loving wife of 52 years. His family remembers him as a wonderful father and grandfather, dear friend and Southern gentleman. Along with his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by one brother, George Spain, of Charleston, SC. He is survived by his daughter; Jan (Ronald) Creed, of Mount Pleasant, SC, two grandchildren; Ginger (James) Hair, and Leslie (Mike) Keefe, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC, two Great-Grandchildren; Taylor Hair and Jennifer Paul, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC, two sisters: Dot Comar, of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Teresa Abbott, of Johns Island, SC and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 10 to 11 am at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 where a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Alzheimer's Association, http://www.alz.org/sc/.
