Tech. Sgt. Herbert Harris “Jack†Jacoby, USAF Ret., 84 of Goose Creek, SC, died Thursday, September 15, 2016. Born October 19, 1931 in Walton, Indiana, he was the son of the late William H. and Agnes Lizzie (Glassburn) Jacoby. Mr. Jacoby served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. While in the Army he served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, as well as in the 11th Airborne Division of 101st Airborne Division. While stationed at the Charleston AFB, he was assigned to the 3rd MAS as an instructor loadmaster flying the C-141 aircraft. During Vietnam, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters while flying in Southeast Asia and an aircraft loadmaster on the C 1-30 Aircraft. Following retirement from the USAF in 1972, he drove a city bus for SCE&G for 24 years. Mr. Jacoby was employed at Parks Auto Parts as a driver for three years. He was a member of the Goose Creek American Legion, VFW, DAV, and Heritage Holiness Church in Ladson. He was a private pilot, skydiver, bungee jumper, and avid motorcyclist. Survivors include his daughter, Jacqueline Agnew and her husband Greg of Nashville TN; granddaughter, Kirsta O’Hern of Warner Robins, GA; grandson, Jeff Agnew and wife Tina of Rochester, IN; great-granddaughters Ava Noelle, Shayna Agnew and Kayleena Agnew; two step-sons, Clarance Phillips and his wife Barbara and David E. Phillips all of Carnes Crossroads; five step-grandchildren, Michael Phillips and his wife Rachel, Michelle Phillips and wife Dorothy, Gary Phillips and his wife, Debbie, David Phillips, Jr. and Christopher Lee Phillips; five step-great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Austin, Alex, Kylee Grace and Claire Beth Phillips; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Mildred (Ballzigler) Jacoby, who died on August 18, 2000. Funeral service will be held Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in Heritage Holiness Church, Ladson, SC. The family will receive friends prior to service from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the church. Burial will follow with military honors in Carolina Memorial Gardens, North Charleston.
