Helen Virginia Lukasavage (Drawdy)

Helen Virginia Drawdy Lukasavage, 87, passed away on Monday, June 09, 2014. She was born June 8, 1927 in Walterboro, SC. Helen was the daughter of the late Jeff Blanchard Drawdy and Mary Elizabeth Crosby. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Martin M. Lukasavage, Sr.; an infant son, Jeffrey Victor Lukasavage and a sister, Margie D. Pooser. She is survived by a son, Martin M. “Mike” Lukasavage, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Charleston; granddaughter, Justin Nicole Kernodle (Bayard) and grandson, Jeffrey Michael Lukasavage of Charleston. Helen is also survived by step-granddaughters, Heather Kennedy (Jamie), Hannah Brooks (Robert), and a step-grandson, Joshua Cook (Mitzi); six step great-grandchildren; special nephew, Dr. Fred Pooser (Frances); special great-nephew, Robert Pooser (Lori), special great-niece, Allison Crosby (Lanier); five great-great-nieces, Carolyn, Chelsea, Natalie, Jalyn and Mackenna; and many beloved cousins and friends. Helen graduated from Memminger High School, Charleston, SC and retired as an Information Specialist from the Federal Job Information Center, Federal Building, Charleston, SC. She was deeply devoted to her family and friends, cherishing every moment she shared with them. Her spiritual gift was that of encouragement and she saw good in everyone. She was like a ray of sunshine. Helen was an active member of her much loved James Island Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over thirty years, was coordinator of the senior “Just Older Youth Club” for many years, was a member of Woman’s Missionary Union and Prayer Group, and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 1013. The family would like to thank the many caregivers who cared for her over the past two years, especially Kitty Almond and Alice Hilyer. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 6pm – 8pm at the McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, JAMES ISLAND CHAPEL. Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 11:00am at James Island Baptist Church, 2023 Wappoo Drive, Charleston, SC 29412. Burial will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Ft. Johnson Rd., Charleston, SC. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to James Island Baptist Church, 2023 Wappoo Drive, Charleston, SC 29412.
