Helen Catherine Hayes

Helen Catherine Hayes, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest with her family by her side on Saturday, August 13, 2016. She was born on Wednesday, December 21, 1921 in New York City, NY to the late Mrs. Emma Lottie Davis Hayes and the late Mr. William Francis Hayes. Helen graduated from Memminger High School in 1940. She retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a payroll clerk and traveled extensively during her retirement. Helen enjoyed quilting, needlework, and volunteering at her church. Her family will remember her as a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She is survived by two nieces, Frances Judith Baldwin (Troy), Of Johns Island, SC and Mary Curnett (Jeff), of Summerville, SC; two nephews, Conrad Whitney (Jane), of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Courtney Whitney (Janet), of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews in South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Louisiana, Texas and Washington State. Helen was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers. She will be greatly missed by her caregiver Ethel D. Manigault. A Funeral Service will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464, on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at 10:00 AM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her memory to First Baptist Church Mt. Pleasant Building Fund, 681 McCants Drive, Mt.
