Gregory David Cain, 58, of Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022.
Greg was born August 21, 1963, in Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada, to parents Walter and Elizabeth (Gunnin) Cain. Greg spent his childhood in Camden, SC, and graduated from Camden High School in June 1981. He received a BS in mathematics from Clemson University in 1986, and MS in sociology from the University of Mississippi in 1992. Soon after, he moved to Berlin, Germany, where he married Anja Schelten. In Germany, Greg completed licensure and practiced homeopathy and they welcomed their first three children. The family relocated to Charleston, SC, in 2000, where Greg attended the Medical University of South Carolina to complete training as a family practice physician (2008).
Greg was passionate about his work and enjoyed spending time with and getting to know his patients. Outside of work, he was an accomplished and dedicated musician, playing in several bands and orchestras in a wide variety of genres from classical to rock. Greg had a love for the water, spending many hours sailing with his wife and children. He had an enthusiasm for life, excited to try new things while always appreciating what he had in front of him. Greg will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife Anja Cain; children, Paul, Henry, Juliette, and Julius Cain; mother, Elizabeth Cain; brother Jeff (Kate) Cain; sister, Darlyne Cain; parents-in-law, Uwe and Regina Schelten; sister-in-law, Marja Schelten; niece, Leona Schelten; and nephew, Julian Cain. Gregory was preceded in death by his father Walter Cain.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 347 Folly Road, Charleston.
The memorial service for Greg will be held on June 25th at 2pm at Circular Congregational Church, 150 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
