Gerald Thomas Brownlee Sr

Gerald Thomas Brownlee, Sr. (Jerry), age 82, of Goose Creek, SC passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018, in home hospice. Jerry was born on April 16, 1936, to the late George and Marie Wise Brownlee in Elberton, GA. He graduated from Elbert County High School in 1953 and then served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957. He married Merlene Wyatt on July 11, 1959. He was a deacon at Folly Beach Baptist Church for many years and was an avid Gamecocks fan.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Merlene Wyatt Brownlee, two brothers, John and Bobby G. Brownlee and one sister, Fay Brownlee Sager. He is survived by 2 brothers, James E. Brownlee, of Watkinsville, GA and George W. Brownlee, of Bishop, GA, and three sisters, Margaret Pierce, of Goose Creek, SC, Joan Alder, of Spindale, NC and Sandra Baird, of Commerce, GA.
He leaves also one son, Gerald Thomas Brownlee, Jr., of Jackson, MS and five daughters, Rose Schindler, of Goose Creek, SC, Susan Bauer, of James Island, SC, Annie Shephard, of Summerville, SC, Elizabeth Calisto, of St. Augustine, FL, Sarah Benton, of Cross, SC, and a special daughter, Emily Brown, of Folly Beach, SC.
He also leaves fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Special thanks to Intrepid Hospice for their assistance in the care given, answering of questions and being there for the family.

The family will receive friends and guests on Friday, October 5, 2018, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM with the service to follow at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 869 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445. Burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Cemetery.
