The beloved Dr. Gerald “Jerry” McCall Chambers, 82 of West Columbia, South Carolina, peacefully passed away on December 23, 2024 after a yearlong battle with kidney failure and dementia.
Born on October 17, 1942 in Rock Hill, SC, Gerald grew up in the rural community of Beth Shiloh in York, SC and was a member of the Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church. He was the son of the late Eunice Marie Thomasson Chambers and McCall Smith Chambers.
Jerry, also known as Dr. G, was a retired Radiologist with Pitts Radiological Associates at Palmetto- Baptist Medical Center and Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC from 1976-2001. Jerry was a wonderful and loyal husband, father, and Pop-Pop. He was an amazing and very entertaining storyteller. He had a heart of gold and a witty and clever sense of humor. He loved spending time with his family, going to the beach and traveling.
He graduated from York High School in 1960, Wofford College in 1964, and MUSC in 1968. He was a Major in the US Army from 1972-1974. He served as a Radiologist at Valley Forge, PA and Fort Polk, LA.
Gerald has joined his father, McCall Chambers, and mother, Eunice Marie Thomasson, in heaven.
Gerald is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Sue Miller Chambers, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by his daughter Lori Chambers Kraft, (Paul), and Grandson Caleb McCall Kraft.
The memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced once the date has been set.
