Georgette Marion Atkinson, 84, and wife of the late Robert Atkinson, a former FDNY firefighter, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016. She was born March 16, 1931, in New York City, NY. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine Wozniak Gustas. Ms. Atkinson grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, NY, lived in Bayside, NY for 22 years and James Island, SC for the past 30 years. Ms. Atkinson was a graduate of Julia Richmond High School and became a Dental Assistant. She loved tutoring Nativity School children in reading and she was a passionate doll maker as a member of the Charm of Charleston Doll Club. Her family will remember her as a loving mother and friend to many. Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Cuccia and her husband Charles; a son, Kent Atkinson and his wife Maria Cristina Mabanes Atkinson; a grandson, Christopher Cuccia, all of College Point, NY; a granddaughter, Melanie Cuccia of North Arlington, NJ; two nephews, Bobby Gustas of New York, NY and Mark-Anthony Gustas of Staten Island ,NY; two nieces Shenequa Lambert of Augusta, Ga, and Crystal Bellamy of Schenectady, NY; a brother in law, James Atkinson; a sister in law, Jackie Atkinson; a nephew Jim Atkinson, all of East Alton, IL and a niece, Julie Paul of Godfrey, IL. Ms Atkinson was predeceased by a daughter, Jole’ Ann Atkinson and a younger brother, Robert Gustas. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
