George (Jes) Gould Jespersen, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, died on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at home with his family. He was born on Monday, February 1, 1926 in Plainfield, NJ, to the late Frances L. Jespersen and George E. Jespersen. His beloved wife Barbara Jane DuBois passed away in 2009. George was a retired Foreign Service Officer. He served in the US Navy during World War II and earned a Purple Heart and Air Medals. George was a graduate of Georgetown School of Foreign Service and took graduate studies at USC Berkeley, CA. He entered the Foreign Service in 1951. His overseas postings included five years in Iran, three years in Italy, three years in Vietnam and two years in Liberia, Africa. George retired in 1978 from the Department of State, and tended the family tree farm for a number of years, then tried various jobs for his own interest. George is survived by three daughters: Elise Wallace of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Linda Jespersen of Copake, NY, Barbara Holcombe (Jaime) of Las Vegas, NV; and a son; Jake Jespersen (Kathleen) of North Falmouth, MA; and five grandchildren. Liah Wallace, Jesse Wallace, Shayne Fouger, Dana Marr, Molly Jespersen, Luke Simons and Tierney Holcombe; two great-grandchildren; Warren Simons and Finn Fouger five grandchildren and one deceased grandchild Kahlin Jespersen. In honor of George, memorial donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association and Camphill Village Copake NY.
