Gene Bernard Mayhue Sr., age 87, of Goose Creek, SC, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 2, 2016. Born in Richmond, VA, he was the son of the late Robert and Maude Mayhue and husband to Shirley Mayhue. He retired from the United States Air Force after thirty years of service. Mr. Mayhue was a decorated war veteran, receiving a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. Gene was an Auburn University graduate and a big Tigers fan; he later began a career with the civil service. He was a member of Summit Church and will be missed by many. Survivors include his wife Shirley; sons, Robert (Carol) Mayhue of Goose Creek, Gene “Scooter†(Lindylou) Mayhue Jr., of Defuniak Springs, Fl; daughter, Rebecca (Michael) Keim of Gainesville, GA; son in law, Chip Sykes of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Christopher Mayhue, Joshua Mayhue, Hannah Mayhue, Brendan Mayhue, Robert Mayhue IV, Lauren Noblin, Matthew Mayhue, Mike Keim, Maddi Keim, KC Sykes, and Austin Sykes; great grandchildren, Madison, Allison, and Jacob Mayhue. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his daughter, Ellen Sykes. A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 6, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to service from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Graveside service with military honors will be held Monday, November 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Beaufort National Cemetery.
