Gail M. Garratt, 75, of Hollywood, SC, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.
Born on June 19, 1944 in La Grange, IL, Gail was the daughter of the late Richard Mansfield and the late Ruth Mansfield.
Gail graduated from La Grange High School. Gail attended the University of Miami, but left early to pursue development of the Boogie Board, which she had invented and we still use today. She then went on to study interior design in Chicago, and later formed Whitney Design Company in Oak Brook, IL. She was committed to her family and several charities, leading fundraising efforts. She was the vice chairman of the Alzheimer’s Ball at the Lyric Opera House in Chicago and Ladies President of the Brookville Zoo for many years, and received a Christ Child Society Award in Naples, FL, for her dedicated work. Gail was also the vice president of Greater Naples Leadership.
After the death of Reg’s first wife, Jean, Gail married Reg in 1989. She devoted herself to being a part of Reg’s family and helping them all recover. Preferring the name she called her own grandmother, she asked that her grandchildren call her Mimi. Gail loved planning family trips and overseas vacations, which became the single unifying events in their family. Her family will remember her as a loving, generous, devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Besides her parents, Gail is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Mansfield.
Gail is survived by her husband of 30 years, Reginald G. Garratt; children: Mark Garratt (Cynthia); Jonathan Garratt (Carole Stedt); Sean Garratt (Sarah) and Louise Bradley; grandchildren: William, Matthew, Christopher, Angelina, Brandi, Caitlin, Jessica, and Ethan; and great-grandchild, Emberly.
