Frederick Robert "Rick" Schmitt

Frederick Robert Schmitt “Rick”,  84, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 27, 2024.

Born on September 9, 1939, in Rock Island, IL, he was the son of the late Dorothy Davidson Schmitt and the late George Schmitt.

Rick served in the US Navy for 10 years, and later started his career as an arson investigator for 33 years. Rick had the ability to strike up conversation with just about anyone. He was a loving son, husband, brother, father, and grandfather. He was generous, funny and a gentle soul who was loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He wanted to be remembered as a nice person. 

In addition to his parents, Frederick is preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Ford, and son Randy Schmitt.

Frederick is survived by his loving wife, Linda Lindley Schmitt,  stepchildren; Michael Lindley and Lauren McNeely, sons; Frederick Schmitt Jr. and Stephen Schmitt and daughter, Erika Schmitt Boyle, son in law Sean Boyle, his two granddaughters; Penelope Boyle and Ruby Boyle, brother Jim Schmitt and his wife  Donna Schmitt, and sister Georgiana Burson and her husband, Lewis Burson.

A celebration of Frederick's life will be held at a later date.
