Franklin R. Rivers, 80, of North Charleston, passed away on February 17, 2014 in a local hospital after a brief illness. Born in Charleston, SC on March 4, 1933, he was the son of the late George R. Rivers and Eleanor G. (White) Rivers. Mr. Rivers attended McClellanville High School in McClellanville, SC. Mr. Rivers was a member of the South Carolina National Guard, the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the Charleston County Police Department, the Charleston County Building Inspection Department and an independent Building Contractor. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Charleston, SC. Mr. Rivers is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Pearl Gertrude Rivers. Mr. Rivers is survived by his children, Stephney Rivers Young and husband Ted of North Charleston, SC and Franklin R. “Butch†Rivers II and wife Dianna of Goose Creek, SC. Grandchildren, Ashley V. McGehee and husband Justin of Lynchburg, Va., Jarrod R. Young of Sterling, Va., Matthew P. Rivers of Goose Creek, SC. and Isabella G. Rivers of Goose Creek, SC. and a sister, Barbara Rivers Hanner of Rocky Mount, NC. Mr. Rivers was one of four children to George R. Rivers and Eleanor G. (White) Rivers. Mr. Rivers has many nephews, nieces and extended family. Mr. Rivers was a loving husband and father. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston. Entombment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
