Frank Herschel Rhoad, Jr., 76, of Charleston, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018.
He was born on August 20, 1941 in Walterboro, SC, son of the late Annie Weeks Rhoad and the late Frank Herschel Rhoad, Sr.
Frank grew up in Ruffin, SC, and joined the 3rd Infantry Division after graduating from high school. After serving four years in the U.S. Army, he worked at the Charleston Navy Shipyard for 29 years. After his retirement in 1996, he enjoyed reading, playing and coaching softball, cooking and loved spending time with his friends and family. His family will remember him as an honest, hard-working man, with a spirited sense of humor and dry wit.
Besides his parents, Frank is preceded in death by his daughter, Shawn Marie Rhoad.
He is survived by his son, Christian Rhoad and his wife, Monica, of Charleston, SC; two daughters: Leah Burns and her husband, Patrick, of Charleston, SC and Morgan Demarzo and her husband, Nico, of Pittsburgh, PA; and two grandchildren: Clara Demarzo and Finn Rhoad.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home James Island Chapel, 347 Folly Road, James Island, SC 29412. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
