Frances Maria Sizemore

Frances “Maria” Sizemore, 80 of West Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025.

Born on June 13, 1944 in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Annie Fleming (Nunn) and Arthur Fleming.

Maria was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and daughter. She retired from Westinghouse, and enjoyed fishing, spending time with her family and her pets. After retirement, she worked part time as an aide to homebound seniors who needed care and company. She loved to sit and chat with people from all walks of life and called everyone “darlin’” with her unique southern drawl. Some of the family’s favorite memories of Maria include her shag dancing in the kitchen, singing along to her favorite song “Roll With it Baby” by Steve Winwood, and hearing about her road trips with Redia where they’d frequently get lost. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Olympia.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, son Kenny Lee Sizemore, brother Arthur Gwen (Mose) Fleming, and sister Redia Stokes. She also had two beloved dogs precede her in death, Tippy and Molly. 

Maria is survived by her daughter Lynn Marie Sizemore (Tamara), grandchildren Amy Lynn Tyler (Casey), Samuel Lee Braemer, and Kasey Montgomery. She is also survived by her brothers Charlie Fleming (Peggy) and Spencer Fleming, sister Brenda Thompson (Ray) and several nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to thank the staff at NHC HealthCare for their extraordinary care and attention to Frances. Also, thank you to Michael and Heather Fleming for their frequent visits and help when needed.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 20th from 2-4pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home at 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC 29169. 

Flowers may be sent to the funeral home ahead of the visitation.
