Florence Lillian Benton (Malone)

Florence Malone Benton, 92, of Charleston, SC passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014. She was born on Friday, June 17, 1921, in Charleston, SC, to the late Frances Malone and Edward P. Malone. Florence was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was a resident of Ashley Park Retirement Center, where she enjoyed the many activities, especially Bingo. She also liked to watch tennis on television. Florence was a homemaker, a wonderful mother, and loved taking care of her grandchildren. She is survived by one son, Jack D. Benton, and his wife, Judy, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one daughter, Maureen Perry, and her husband, Robert, of Charleston, SC; and three grandchildren: David Benton of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Kimberly Perry Simmons, and her husband, Joshua, of Goose Creek, SC; and Robert 'Robby' Perry of Charleston, SC. Besides her parents, Florence is preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, Jack R. Benton; one grandson, Michael 'Gregory' Benton; and two sisters: Dorothy Matthews and Frances Britton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, from 6PM to 8PM, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel. Rosary will take place at 6PM. A funeral will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 5 St. Theresa Drive, Charleston, SC, on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at 11:00AM, with Father Joseph Romanoski officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at 2090 Executive Hall Rd., Charleston, SC 29407.
