Florante Boffil Escobar, of Goose Creek, husband to Joanne Escobar of 52 years, entered into eternal rest on August 25, 2020 , surrounded by his family.
Born on July 25, 1940 in Samar, Philippines. Florante was a son of Vicente Escobar and Consolacion Escobar.
Florante's biggest accomplishment was becoming a US Citizen and being able to bring his parents and siblings to the US from the Philippines. Florante was also an avid fisherman and gardener. Florante was an Engineman in the US Navy and served aboard several ships. He enjoyed most of his career spent on Navy minesweepers, which earned the phrase "Wooden ships, Iron men." Florante retired in 1988 after 22 years of service.
In addition to his wife, Florante is survived by his children Sandra Mellott of Goose Creek, SC, Florante Escobar, Jr. of Aliso Viejo, CA and Ray Escobar of Orlando, FL. Florante leaves behind six grandchildren Kyle, Kobe, Kloe, Hannah, Lila, and Zachary.
The family will receive friends on August 31, 2020 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Chapel located at 869 St. James Ave Goose Creek, SC. A rosary will be prayed at 7:15pm.
The service will be held at 11:00 AM on September 1st, 2020 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located at 510 St. James Ave Goose Creek, SC. The burial will be held at Carolina Memorial Gardens located at 7113 Rivers Ave North Charleston, SC immediately following the service.
