Filomena Smith, 55, of Charleston, SC, passed away on December 13, 2013, at her residence. She was born on March 18, 1958, in Remedios da Bretanha Sao Miguel, Azores, to Hilda (Do Rego) Arruda and the late James Arruda. Filomena was employed at Boeing Company as an executive assistant. She enjoyed boating and sewing, and loved her dog, Suki Boy. Her family remembers her as the perfect daughter and wife. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her husband of 16 years, Allen Smith of Charleston; her mother, Hilda (Do Rego) Arruda of Fall River, MA; three brothers: Anselmo Arruda (Patty) of Pembroke, MA; Reginald Arruda (Grace) of Bristol, RI; and Peter Arruda (Margaret) of Tiverton, RI: and four sisters: Margaret Arruda of Fall River, MA; Maria Mercedes Da Costa (Manny) of Somerset, MA; and Maria Rose Doherty (John) of Somerset, MA; and Leonora Bouchard (Alan) of Swansea, MA; nine nieces, one nephew, and one great-nephew. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00am, Monday, December 16, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Gabe Smith will officiate.
