Everhart Charles Shuler, 83, of Charleston, died Saturday, November 14, 2015. Everhart was born November 18, 1931 in Elloree, SC to the late Ewart Arnold Shuler, Sr. and Katherine (Stall) Shuler. He received a certificate from Bob Jones University and a B.A. from the University of SC, and a M.A. from Appalachian State University and a Specialist in Education from the College of Charleston. He retired as Director of Guidance Services from Hanahan Schools, and was previously a Director of Intern Counselors at The Citadel and Baptist College (now Charleston Southern University), he also worked with the Atlanta Area Schools, University of Michigan and Charleston County and City of Columbia, SC Schools. He was a former member of the American Personnel and Guidance Association, National Education Association, SC Educational Association and International Reading Association. In addition to his parents, two siblings including his brother Ewart A. Shuler, Jr., and sister Katherine ('Bobbie') Murphy Shuler, Everhart was predeceased by his longtime partner, Charles Story in 2008. He will be deeply missed by his family including his sister, Doris S. Snowball (Charles) of Jacksonville, FL, 6 nieces and nephews including, George Francis Avinger (Jane),and Arnold Avinger, both of Jacksonville, FL, Everhart C. Avinger (Jonie) of Hillard, FL, Keith A. Avinger and Catherine Griffin (Chad) all of Jacksonville, and Lynn Shuler Teague (George) of Columbia, SC. Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service, 11:00AM, Monday, November 16, 2015 at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, West Ashley Chapel, 2501 Bees Ferry Rd., Charleston with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The visitation will be prior to the service from 10:30AM until 11:00AM at the funeral home.
