Evelyn Fay Wasson

Evelyn Fay Wasson, 69, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

Born on February 22, 1955, in Lihue, HI, Evie was the daughter of the late Robert Gonzales and Paulina Lahip Gonzales.

Evie will always be remembered as our sweet, humble, kind, and compassionate Island girl who cherished family and friends. She was an accomplished golfer placing 2nd at the Ladies Club Champion at Crystal Springs Country Club in Grand Rapids, MI; then went on to win 1st place at Vestal Hills Country Club in Binghamton, NY; and more recently, at Charleston National and Dunes West. She also loved fishing and travel. Finally, she was an Adopt-A-Highway volunteer cleaning up I-17 in Mount Pleasant.

Evie is preceded in death by her mother and father, Robert Gonzales and Paulina Gonzales; her brother, Robert Gonzales; and two sisters, Beverly Patnode and Christine Gonzales.

Evie is survived by her husband, Dr. James Wasson; sons, Robert (Monisha) Wasson and Brian (Sara) Wasson; sisters, Rene (Mark) Music and Clarice (Michael) Callejo; granddaughters, Haven Gomez and Jaya Wasson; and grandsons, Aakil Wasson, and Daniel Wasson.

This December 28th would have been Jim and Evie's 50th Wedding Anniversary. They met in college in CA and were married in her hometown of Kapaa, HI in 1974.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on April 1, 2024, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM the following day on April 2, 2024, from 11:00 AM at Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 990 Etiwan Park Street, Charleston, SC 29494, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery located at 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of South Carolina, 901 Orange Grove Road, Charleston, SC 29407 or Building Fund Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church 225 Seven Farms Drive, Suite 100 Charleston, South Carolina 29492.
