Evelyn Maxwell Singletary, 86, of Yonges Island, SC, wife to Everett Elby Singletary of 67 years, entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 25, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 12, 1935 in Lavonia, GA, Evelyn was a daughter of the late Clifton Jefferson Maxwell and Laura Marchant Maxwell.
Evelyn was a graduate of Columbia Commercial College. She then spent over 30 years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard in the computer program, where she was the first female computer operator. Evelyn continued to excel and after a successful career she retired as a computer programmer/analyst.
As an active member of the First Baptist Church of St. Paul's Parish she served as bookkeeper and a Vacation Bible School teacher. She was a strong woman of faith and was committed to serving her Lord and Saviour. After the church closed, she and Everett became members of West Ashley Independent Baptist Church.
She and Everett enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth Singletary-Carter (James) of Yonges Island, SC; Pamela Singletary of Yonges Island, SC; four grandchildren, Jason Tarokh, Joshua Tarokh, Anna Middleton, and Phillip Middleton; eight great-grandchildren Emma, Layne, Sophia, Kennley, Evelyn, Alice, Ford, and Everett (January 2022).
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414.
The funeral service will follow at 1:00pm.
Flowers will be accepted, along with memorial contributions in Evelyn`s memory made to BBN, the Bible Broadcasting Network at P.O. Box 7300, Charlotte, NC 28241.
