Eugene Paul Shumaker

Mr. Eugene Paul Shumaker, 75, husband of the Hazel Shumaker, of Charleston, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015. Eugene Shumaker was born on November 16, 1940 in New York, NY to the late Paul and Jean Shumaker. Mr. Shumaker was a retired maintenance engineer with MUSC. He enjoyed working with wood and metal, creating cats, boats, and a variety of other items. His family remembers him as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. In addition to Hazel, his wife of 55 years, survivors include a daughter, Patti Blanchette, of New Jersey, 2 sons, Gene Shumaker, of Charleston and Tom Shumaker of New Jersey, 6 grandchildren, Jeffrey Drews of Charleston, Jessica and Nicole Blanchette of New Jersey, Kevin, Steven and Melanie Shumaker of New Jersey and his niece Carol Burns and nephews, Billy and Charlie Koelsch, and James Brokaw of New Jersey and Jerry Brokaw of Travelers Rest, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Cathy Lomas. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service until 4pm.
