Eugene "Gene" Louis Bishop, Sr.

Eugene "Gene" Louis Bishop, Sr., 81 of Charleston, SC, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023. 

Born on April 3, 1942, in Charleston, SC, he was a son of the late Margarite Helander Bishop and Jerry Bishop. 

Gene started Bishop and Sons Plumbing and Piping, Inc. in 1980 and enjoyed working up until his death. His passion was driving his big dump truck. Gene enjoyed many outdoor activities, which included hunting and fishing. He loved riding Harleys, and traveled out west with his wife and dear friends, Ben and Barbara. Gene had tons of friends who he enjoyed being with at the American Legion 147 and VFW. He enjoyed being with family, especially his grandchildren. His family will remember him as a hard-working, honorable man.

Besides his parents, Eugene is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Clark Bishop; daughter, Katherine Chrise and brother, Jerome Bishop.

Gene is survived by his children: Duane Bishop (Beth), Sherea Franks (Len), Greg Sealey, Tricia Altine (Buster), Gene Bishop Jr.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and his cousin and best friend, Sigrid.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, West Ashley.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, West Ashley. The burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Charleston, SC. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
