Elsie Cecile DeRain

Elsie Cecile DeRain, 100, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016. She was born on Saturday, December 11, 1915 in Charleston, SC daughter of the late Celestine Girard DeRain and the late James Ellsworth DeRain. Elsie graduated from Memminger High School, and attended Rice Business College. She retired from the Industrial Relations Office, US Naval Shipyard. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, James Girard “Roddy” DeRain. Elsie is survived by her niece, Celeste DeRain Spade of Charleston, SC; great nieces: Samantha Jenkins of Los Angeles, CA; Serena Churchill and her husband, Thomas of Hanahan, SC; and Celeste T. Spade of Charleston, SC; great nephew, Thomas M. Spade of Charleston, SC; and many devoted friends and relatives. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 9, 2016, from 7:00PM to 9:00PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 888 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403. Burial will follow in St Lawrence Cemetery.
