Elizabeth Jean Thompson, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, died at her residence on Tuesday, January 19, 2016. She was born on Wednesday, August 6, 1930 in Warrington, Lancashire, England to the late Mrs. Pol Hughes and the late Mr. John Hughes. Jean grew up in England, and met her husband, Raymond, right after WWII. They married in Washington, DC in 1951 and traveled extensively with Raymond’s career in the military/civil service. Eventually, settling in SC in 1977 where she made Mt. Pleasant her home. She enjoyed playing bridge, was avid member of the “Hat Ladiesâ€, and “Alliance Francaisâ€. Jean recently traveled to Brazil, conquering the Amazon River, and spent several holidays in Mexico. Her family will remember her as loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She is survived by two loving daughters, Patricia Youngerman (Gary), of Troy, OH, and Barbara Mary Lesieur (Stephen Lesieur Sr.), of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Taylor (Allen), Stephen Thomas Lesieur Jr., and Rachel Hughes Lesieur; one great-grandchild, Victoria Taylor; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Craven and Agnes Thompson; a very dear friend, Donald Michael; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband of thirty-five years, Raymond Charles Thompson Jr., one daughter, Nina Jean Jeter; and one brother and three sisters. A Memorial Gathering will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 10:00 AM.
