Efrain Parra

Efrain Antonio Parra Caro, 73, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

Born on September 12, 1951, in Peru, Efrain was the son of the late Hermelinda Caro Perez and the late Antonio Parra Sosa.

Efrain was adventurous at a young age. He chose to backpack across Peru alone almost making it to Chile. His warm heart, gentle smile and charisma helped him to make many friends along the way and paved a smooth path for him. His passion for photography captured many moments along the way and throughout his life. He spent some time as a photographer for the military capturing beautiful scenery and important moments.

In the year 2001, he traveled to the United States in search of work as a chef. He brought with him original flavors from traditional Peruvian cuisine which did not go unnoticed. He worked in select restaurants in the Charleston area including Fleet Landing, Magnolias, Halls Chophouse and Hanks Seafood where his Ceviche recipe was published in their book and is still served daily.

Efrain's cooking was not only his hobby or occupation, but an expression of himself, an expression of his love to share with family and friends. His cooking and free spirit led him to be the patriarch of the family being the first one to move and bring his family to the states. This family continues to grow through those who share the same passion as Efrain shared with everyone he loved.

Efrain is survived by his wife, Maria Elena Naucapoma; son, Renzo Parra; daughters: Dora Parra, Nahit Parra and Daniela Parra and his grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, West Ashley.

The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, West Ashley.
