Edward (Ed) Frank Dengg, 84 of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.

Ed was born on August 23, 1938, in Louisville, KY, the only son and child of the late Mary Kathleen Van Meter (Bryan) and Edward Lee Van Meter.

Ed attended Eastern High School and was a student at Western Kentucky University for two years before serving in the United States Navy from 1958-1964. Upon honorable discharge from the service, Ed worked at Celanese Specialty Chemicals Company for 32 years. Upon retiring in 1995, Ed worked for several years as a travel
agent.

Ed was a dedicated member of the Exchange Club, American Legion, and Metro North Church, an honorable Kentucky Colonel, and an elder, deacon, and Clerk of Session at James Lees Presbyterian Church.

Ed was a Churchill Downs horse racing fan, avid book reader, beach lover, bridge card player, cruise taker and traveler, golf player, volunteer girls’ softball coach, fire brigade responder at Celanese, family chef and cookie baker, chaperone for his daughters’ school trips and steadfast attendee at their sports events.

Ed is preceded in death by Frank Dengg (Father), Mary Kathleen Van Meter (Mother), Edward Lee Van Meter (Stepfather), Florence Smith (Aunt), and Nevaeh Dozier (Great granddaughter).

Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Sylvia Dohrman Dengg; daughter Shari Whittle (Jim) of Douglasville, GA; daughter Suzy Gately (Tim) of Huger, SC; daughter Sandi Reeves (Andy) of Goose Creek, SC; daughter Stacy Florence (David) of Isle of Palms, SC; and 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Metro North Church in Goose Creek on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 10-11 am with the service immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Metro North Church, 109 Central Ave., Goose Creek, SC 29445 or Agape Hospice Care – North Charleston, 2680 Elms Plantation Blvd, Suite 101, North Charleston, SC 29406.

The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Agape Hospice Care, especially RN Emily and CNA Montinique.
