Edna Lagergren Baker

Edna Lagergren Baker, 89, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. 

Born on July 13, 1935, in Pensacola, FL, Edna was the daughter of the late Irene Frederickson Lagergren and the late Axel Lagergren. Edna was the youngest of a large family and always remembered her childhood, surrounded by doting older siblings, with deep fondness. She was proud of her family’s rich history and worked hard to keep their stories and memories alive.  

Edna married Bill, the love of her life, in Pensacola on December 5th, 1966. They moved to Charleston in 1974 as a young family of six. Edna was an active sports mom, never missing from the stands at her children’s baseball and football games, a practice which carried on to her grandchildren. She was unwaveringly devoted to her family, both near and far, and was always excited to celebrate the arrival of new members. She maintained close connections with her extensive circle of family and friends throughout her life, and she cherished any opportunity to spoil her grandbabies.  

Edna’s defining trait was her generous, giving spirit. She never passed up a chance to make people’s lives brighter, and she never met a stranger. She loved to connect with people, and always made time for a friendly conversation, whether sitting at the ballfield or standing in line at her neighborhood grocery store. She will be remembered by many for her selfless nature and open heart. 

Edna is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, William “Bill” Baker, Sr., her daughter, Donna Davenport (Mackie), son, Darryl Crain (Linda), son, William “Billy” Baker, Jr. (Robin), and son, Scott Baker (Amy), as well as 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and many other relatives and family friends who will miss her dearly. 

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents and siblings. 

The family plans to have a memorial service with burial at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.
