Edgar Mahan Cheely, Jr, of Kiawah Island, SC, passed away on May 31, 2021.
He leaves behind his wife, Mary Lynn McWhorter Cheely, with whom he would have been married 50 years on September 18th of this year and two children, Edgar Mahan Cheely III (Cat Utah) of Captain Cook, HI and Catherine Cheely Bradley (Ryan) and two grandchildren, Blair Mahan Bradley and Colin Christopher Bradley, all of Mt Pleasant, SC. He also leaves a brother, Dr. George Rayburn Cheely (Jean) of Apex, NC and a sister, Carole Cheely Johnson of Minneapolis, as well as 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
He was the son of the late Edgar Mahan Cheely and Cathlyn Criscillis Cheely of Indiana, PA, the grandson of the late Beulan Ethlebert Cheely and Doris Mahan Cheely of Knoxville, TN and Crystal River, FL and the late George Criscillis and Margaret Franklin Criscillis of Williamsburg, KY.
Ed was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Mercersburg Academy and Carnegie Mellon University, and later received an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked in finance for Alcoa for 30 years. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St Clair, PA. He retired from Alcoa in 2000 and spent the rest of his life being with his family, fly fishing, and playing golf as often as possible.
The family will have a small private service and burial at St. Michael's Church at a future date.
