The Life and Memories of Eddie Bernard Grooms
He has lived well, laughed often and loved much; He has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; He has left the world a better place, he never lacked or failed to show Love and concern for his fellow man/women Eddie looked for the best in others and always gave his best.
Eddie was born April 2, 1940 in Cuthbert, Georgia (Randolph County). Eddie Transitioned in the early morning on December 7, 2022.
He was the third son born to the union of Fadie and Susie Lee Sampson Grooms. He was the paternal grandson of Willis and Janie Grooms and The Maternal Grandson of Press and Bertha Morland Sampson.
The Family moved to Charleston,South Carolina in 1950 where he attended Jenkins Orphanage Elementary School. He attended Bonds Wilson High School where he graduated with honors in 1958.
After graduating High School he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for Nine years in Intelligence. He was stationed for several years in Germany, it was there where he learned to speak fluent German and played Center on the Air Force Basketball team. After being honorably discharged he worked for National Airline and US Airline where he retired.
Eddie met Corine Breeland and they were married August 2, 1969. Corine and Eddie Traveled Worldwide until the Illness of Corine prevented further travel. Corine transitioned to her heavenly home on December 20, 2020.
Eddie was the Father of Two Sons, Kenny Sumpter of Valdosta Georgia and Eddie B. Hicks of Charlotte, North Carolina. He leaves to mourn four brothers, Alfred Grooms of Summerville, SC, Benjamin Grooms of Fairburn Georgia, Press M.Grooms of Charleston SC and James White of Fairburn, Georgia, one Sister Olivia Grooms Holley-Cooper of Goose Creek, SC, Sister in laws Bernice Grooms, Karen Grooms, Gynette Breeland & Mildred Breeland. 10 Nieces 7 Nephews and Numerous other Family and Friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at McAlister Smith Funeral Home West Ashley.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley.
